Sky News - Top of the hour
The brief for Sky News was to generate a title sequence that promoted the channel and the fact that we were "first for breaking news" across all platforms by incorporating live data feeds. The requirement of the sequence was that every single hour the content should dynamically alter in real-time to show that the channel is always up to date and alive with new stories.
The natural progression for this was to look at how we could incorporate the devices within a 3D space and show the top story content moving from one platform to another with a pay off resolve of the Sky News logo.
The cut sequence and durations were developed in Softimage XSi and then placed into VizRT where frame matching, masking, 3D composition and data integration of the scenes took place, once we had an idea of how much load the real-time scenes could take, we were able to pick and choose where things could be rendered. This could be as part of the background (where masks could push through the real-time scene to the backplate) or as part of the foreground.
The breakdown of the data flow is shown in the diagram below.
Compositing
The compositing of the scene was performed in After Effects from the 3D render output and a follow up pass of compositing was then performed in the real-time system.
